Scripps Communities of Resources and Empowerment (SCORE)

Scripps Communities of Resources and Empowerment

Mission Statement

SCORE is more than an office or department; we seek to build a community of people dedicated to enhancing and supporting inclusion and equity at Scripps College and beyond through programming and advising within a social justice framework that seeks to address and tackle oppression.

SCORE has a strong collaborative relationship with Scripps International Students, Watu Weusi, Café con Leche, the Asian American Student Union, the Asian American Sponsor Program, the Disability, Illness, and Difference Alliance, Family, Blend, Kehilah, and Quest Scholars Network.

SCORE is an accountable space and centers marginalized identities. SCORE also has a kitchen, living room, and conference room for student use by reservation. You can find us on the north side of campus, next to the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) and across from Frankel/Routt Residence Halls.

Programs

SCORE leads the Scripps community in social justice education. SCORE programming is informed by “Hot Topics” on campus, national and international events, and community needs. SCORE programs also focus on providing community building opportunities as well as time and space for self-care.

Students are at the heart of the SCORE Office. SCORE student interns lead many of the office’s programming initiatives which are informed by their peers, conversations in classes, and the socio-political scene. SCORE empowers interns with the practical skills to help facilitate SCORE’s mission and prepare them to be leaders at Scripps as well as in their communities post-graduation.

Here are some of our core programs:

Beyond the Binary Month – We host this program series during the month of March. Beyond the Binary seeks to explore issues that are typically presented as a binary, thus ignoring the complexities of issues such as race, gender, sexuality, ability, feminism, and intersectionality. These events are put on by SCORE interns, clorgs and student leaders. For a full listing of programs, check out our Facebook Events as we approach March.

Ally Month – During the month of April, we host Ally Month as an opportunity to support ally development within the greater Scripps community. These workshops are typically facilitated by our Peer Educators and professional staff, and can address general allyship 101 or delve into specific topics of allyship.

Community Dinners – At the start of each month of the academic year, we invite the SCORE community to join us in the SCORE Living Room for delicious food and great conversation. We also begin the dinner with announcements of community updates and upcoming events from SCORE staff, interns, and clorg leaders, as well as other campus and community partners.
