Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Primary Contact Deans serve as a resource to the Scripps College community. Each enrolled student at the College is assigned a PCD, who serves as a primary resource for questions, concerns, support, or consultation during a student’s time at the College.
The goal is for each Scripps student to have the same PCD during the student’s four years at Scripps. The PCD role is both comprehensive and tailored to individual student needs. The dean’s role is especially salient to students in their first year, as students learn to navigate the college landscape and adjust to life at Scripps. While PCDs do not serve as academic advisors, they are available to help students think holistically about how they will maximize their time at Scripps.
Students will find their PCD to be an excellent source of counsel and, when appropriate, a strong advocate. Scripps students are encouraged to get to know their PCD—the deans host events throughout the academic year and also have office hours.
PCD assignments are made based on the first letter of the student’s last name. The listing below indicates assignments for the current academic year:
