First-Generation @ Scripps Pre-Orientation

The First-Generation @ Scripps Pre-Orientation is designed to support the transition from high school to college for students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year institution in the United States. The pre-orientation provides a range of sessions and workshops to position you to get the most out of your college experience including, but not limited to:

  • Knowing your resources
  • Navigating academics
  • Communicating with faculty
  • How to find a job and working as a student
  • Understanding your financial aid resources
  • Getting involved at Scripps and The Claremont Colleges
  • Meeting student leaders
  • Building community
  • In-depth tour of Scripps College and campus resources

Most importantly, while the program is completely voluntary, it is a valuable opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, other students and future mentors!

Pre-orientation will take place at Scripps College from Saturday, August 24-Monday, August 26, 2019. Scripps will provide all participants with housing for three nights (Friday-Sunday) and all meals during the program at no cost.  Students who attend the pre-orientation program will be responsible for their own transportation to campus on Friday, August 23 and should arrive no later than 3:00pm to move-in and prepare for an evening social.  The deadline to register is August 1, 2019.
