How do I apply for housing as a new student?

New students will have access to the Campus Life questionnaire on Monday, May 20, 2019; deadline is Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

How much is housing at Scripps?

All room styles are billed at the same rate. Please visit the Student Accounts page for more information on housing fees.

What are my meal plan options?

All residential students are assigned the 16-meal plan when housing assignments are created.  Students may request to switch to the 12-meal plan with Student Accounts until Tuesday, September 10, at which time no further adjustments will be accepted.

Are new students required to live on campus?

Yes, all new students are required to live on campus during their first year at Scripps.

What types of rooms are available to new students?

First year students are assigned to triples and doubles.  Transfer students are assigned to doubles, singles or singles in suites. Singles are available as part of our housing accommodation process. Visit Academic Resources and Services (ARS) to learn more.

How will I know who I am living with?

New students will receive housing assignments in mid-July 2019.  The Residential Life staff match students based on the information provided as part of the Campus Life questionnaire.


Moving In

When can I check in to my room?

Residence halls open at 7am on Wednesday, August 28 as part of New Student Program and Orientation (NSPO). More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

What size beds are in the residence halls?

All beds support extra large twin-sized mattresses.

What furniture is included in the room?

Beginning May 20, 2019, Scripps College will no longer permit the removal of college-issued furniture provided in our residential spaces (i.e. halls, houses and apartments).  All rooms will be furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, floor lamp and wardrobe/closet.  This change has been implemented to ensure fire safety, maintain cleanliness and prevent exposure to pests in student rooms.  The full version of the policy can be found  in the Guide to Student Life.

Microfridge units are available for rent through Microfridge online.

Where do I do my laundry?

There are laundry facilities in each residence hall. The machines (washers and dryers) are accessed with your Scripps ID, requiring students to add money to their Claremont Cash account. The cost of the washer is $1.oo; the dryer is 50 cents.

How to I get Internet access in my room?

Each residence hall has access to high-speed wireless internet. IT staff will be available on move-in day to assist with connectivity.
