LASPA Center at Scripps College: Director candidates to visit campus

Posted: February 9, 2015

Dear members of the Scripps College community,

I am pleased to announce that three outstanding candidates have been selected as finalists in the search for Director of the LASPA Center at Scripps College. The LASPA Center focus will be to help students through the process of transforming knowledge, passion, and ideas into action. To fully realize the vision for the Center, we have sought a Director who will work collaboratively with many members of the campus community to develop workshops, seminars, action grants, internships, civic engagement opportunities, and support for faculty/student collaborations.

Beginning this week, each of the finalists will visit campus to meet with members of the campus community. These visits are an integral part of the search process and allow the community a chance to get to know the candidates, and the candidates an opportunity to learn more about Scripps. All members of the Scripps campus community are invited to participate in the process. Please plan to attend the sessions listed below for your cohort group:

We are two months away from realizing the launch of the LASPA Center at Scripps College. The LASPA Steering Committee is planning an interactive and engaging event for April 2. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Steering Committee and the Planning Group for their work on this project. The combined vision of students, faculty, staff, alumnae, and trustees is setting the framework for this exciting initiative!

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the members of the search committee: Charlotte Johnson (Committee Chair); H. Andrea Neves (Trustee); Professor Winston Ou (faculty); Michelle Guan (student); Barbara Garcia (staff); and Denice Wint (alumna). These committed volunteers are a subset of the LASPA Steering Committee, and I know you join me in thanking them for their commitment to identifying candidates who will be best positioned to work with the variety of internal and external constituents the Center aspires to engage.

I look forward to the campus visits and thank you for your participation in this important search.

Best regards,

Lori Bettison-Varga
President
