CMS Athletics Week in Review: November 4-10

The Athenas had a bye week and continued to train for the NCAA West Regionals, which are Saturday, Nov. 16 at Pomona-Pitzer’s soccer field. The Athenas won the 2013 SCIAC Championships, which were held Nov. 2 at Prado Park in Chino.
The Athenas beat Pomona-Pitzer (1-0) then top-seeded Cal Lutheran (1-0) to win the SCIAC Women’s Soccer Postseason Tournament over the weekend and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. Senior Lauren Allen (CMC) scored the game-winner late in the final match against Cal Lutheran to give the Athenas the SCIAC Tournament title. Their overall record stands at 10-8-3. CMS faces Hardin-Simmons (Tex.) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. It is the Athenas’ first NCAA postseason appearance since 2009 and fifth overall.
The Athenas beat Pomona-Pitzer (3-1) then lost to Cal Lutheran (3-0) in the championship match of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament over the weekend. Sophomore Audrey Breitwieser (CMC) scored 26.5 points in both games. CMS finished third in the SCIAC during the regular season with an overall record of 24-6. Despite losing in the conference tournament finals, CMS earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship and faces Thomas More (Ky.) at 9:30 a.m. PST Friday, Nov. 15 in the Emory University Regional in Atlanta, Ga. It is the Athenas’ first NCAA postseason appearance since 1997 and fifth overall.
