CMS Athletics Week in Review: January 27-February 2

Women’s Basketball

The Athenas split a pair of games, losing at Chapman (73-69) on Thursday before bouncing back with a home win over Whittier (70-43) on Saturday. Freshman forward Kris Brackmann (CMC) averaged 17.5 points off the bench during the week with 19 points against Chapman and 16 points against Whittier. CMS is now 16-3 overall and 8-2 in SCIAC that puts them in second place. Next up for the Athenas are a home game against Occidental (Feb. 6) and a road game at Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 8).

Women’s Swimming & Diving

The Athenas kept rolling through conference as the team defeated Redlands 172-69 on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. Diver Carli Lessard (HMC) won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events for CMS. The Athenas are now 7-0 in SCIAC meets with one final meet at Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 8) before the SCIAC Championships.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Athena lacrosse team hosted its annual Alumnae Game as part of the Trapp Family Classic on Saturday. CMS hosts Redlands on Parents Field on Saturday, Feb. 8 in its regular-season opener. Last season, CMS posted an 8-10 record.

Softball

The softball team opened its season on Saturday with a 3-2, 10-inning loss at home to Vanguard. Freshman Alexa Heydenberk (CMC) had an RBI single in the game, the first of her Athena career. CMS next plays on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Concordia.

Women’s Tennis

The Athena tennis team did not compete this week after its trip to Hawaii the week before. Next up for the Athenas are matches at Cal State Los Angeles and home against Caltech on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Women’s Track & Field

The Athenas hosted their annual Alumnae Meet on Saturday. The first meet of the 2014 season is on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.

Women’s Water Polo

The water polo team remains in search of its first win of 2014 after it dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, losing 13-9 to Cal State Bakersfield and 13-8 to Cal Baptist with both games at Cal Baptist. CMS is 0-4 so far this season. Next up for CMS is its home-opener against Hawaii on Feb. 20.
