After a weeklong break, the Athenas defeated Redlands (49-44) in their only game of the week. CMS broke the three-way tie for first place with the win over conference rival Redlands. Junior Kimberly Scamman (CMC) and senior Madeline Barnes (SCR) each had 13 points on the night while senior Kyra Ray (CMC) came up big with a clutch three-point shot in the final minutes. The Athenas are now 15-2 (7-1 SCIAC) and alone in first place in SCIAC standings. They travel to Chapman on Jan. 30 and then play at home against Whittier on Feb. 1.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
The CMS women won 15 of the 16 events as they defeated Caltech 239-32 and Cal Lutheran 215-64. The Athenas set two pool records and boasted many multiple winners. The first pool record for the Athenas was set by senior Annika Jessen (CMC) in the 100-yard butterfly, which was also an NCAA ‘B’ cut qualifying time. The 200 medley-relay team of Jessen, senior Erin MacLean (CMC), senior Michele Kee (CMC) and senior Helen Liu (CMC), also set a pool record. Kee won three events on the day: 200 medley relay, 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley. The final home swim meet is this weekend, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 against Redlands.
