CMS Athletics Week in Review: February 2-8

The Athena basketball team went 1-0 last week, extending its win streak to 14 as it beat Chapman 60-54 in its only contest of the week. Against Chapman, Kim Scamman (CMC ’15) scored 16 points and Kailee Severt (CMC ’18) tied her career and season high with 14 points. CMS is now 18-3 overall, 12-0 in the SCIAC. The Athenas travel to the University of Redlands to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
The women’s swimming and diving team defeated Pomona-Pitzer 188-112 and set five Axelrood Pool records along the way. The Athenas’ 200-yard medley relay team of Kelly Ngo (CMC ’17), Stephanie Doi (CMC ’17), Lorea Gwo (CMC ’18) and Courtney Chan (CMC ’17) broke the pool record with a time of 1:46.76. Maia Presti (SCR ’17) set the 1-meter diving record with a score of 269.05 while Carli Lessard (HMC ’17) broke the 3-meter diving record with a score of 270.55. Ngo also broke the 100-yard backstroke record with a time of 58.50, and Gwo broke the 100-yard butterfly record with a time of 56.72. With the meet victory, the CMS women’s swim team senior class improves to 31-0 in SCIAC dual meets for their career. CMS improves to 8-0 in the conference. The Athenas will be back in action at the SCIAC Championships on Feb. 19-22 in Commerce, Calif.
