CMS Athletics Week in Review: April 28-May 4

Women’s Golf

The Athena golf team won the SCIAC Golf Championship Tournament as well as the third consecutive overall SCIAC title. A trio of Athenas finished in the top five for the tournament: Shaina Raskin ’15 (SCR) in second place with Maya Reddy ’14 (CMC) and Melody Sue ’16 (CMC) tied for fifth. The NCAA invited Reddy and Tiffany Su ’15 (CMC) to compete as individuals May 13-16 at the El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.


The Athena softball team went 3-1 over the weekend, winning its third consecutive SCIAC Tournament Championship and earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament. CMS beat Chapman (6-0) and Redlands (5-4) on Friday and then faced Redlands twice more on Saturday, losing 1-0 and then winning the championship 11-0 (5 innings). Carley Roberts ’16 (CMC) was 5-for-11 at the plate with six RBI. In the circle for the Athenas, Hayley Schultz ’15 (CMC) posted a 1.10 ERA for the tournament in 19 innings pitched. CMS advances to an NCAA Regional, hosted by Redlands May 9-10, to play Linfield at 11 a.m. and Redlands at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

Women’s Tennis

The Athena tennis team hosted and won the SCIAC Championship, defeating La Verne in the final matchup. In the tournament, CMS beat Cal Lutheran (5-0) and Redlands (6-3) before topping La Verne (5-4) in the closest match of the tournament. Victoria Santoro ’14 (CMC), playing No. 6 singles, clinched the team’s title with her 6-4, 6-1 win. CMS advances to the NCAA Tournament, which begins with regional playoffs May 9-11.

Women’s Track & Field

The CMS women won the SCIAC Track and Field Championships over the weekend. Winners included Hanna Tarleton ’17 (CMC) in the 400 (56.85), Amy Hollshwandner ’17 (CMC) in the 400 hurdles (64.04), Ellyn Erving ’14 (SCR), with a meet record in the triple jump (39-5), and the 4 x 400 relay team of Meg O’Keefe ’14 (HMC), Hollshwandner, Alex Arnett ’16 (CMC) and Tarleton (3:55.70).  Next up for CMS is the Claremont Classic Decathlon/Heptathlon May 8-9.
