CMS Athletics Roundup – December 11

As the fall semester comes to a close, Scripps College salutes recent achievements from the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) athletes.
Athenas soccer forward Madi Shove ’13 was recently honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America when she was named to the third team, All-West Region, and earned first team all-SCIAC honors this year.
Women’s basketball lost 100 – 85 at an away game against the University of La Verne on December 6. After playing in every game her first two years, however, Madeline Barnes ’14 continues to shine this season and was high scorer with 14 points in the home opener against Whittier on December 1. The Athenas are 1 – 7 going into their fight against California Lutheran on December 11.
The CMS swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 season with an impressive set of wins against Caltech and Whittier in a double-dual meet December 1. Stags and Athenas each won relay events, and Kaela Nurmi ’15 came in first in both 100 and 200 backstroke. Eighteen athletes emerged with a victory in at least one individual event, enjoying a spectacular start to the season.
