Blame Sally

Levitt on the Lawn turns 22 this week when it invites Blame Sally, an all-female San Francisco folk-rock quartet, on stage April 25.

“We are so honored to be playing at Scripps College,” says guitarist Renee Harcourt. “We take great pride in pushing ourselves to be as good as possible without relying on the traditional male/female dynamics that often permeate the music industry. Institutions like Scripps provide an environment where women can excel to their fullest potential without the constraints of traditional roles. ”

Founded in 2005, the Levitt on the Lawn Program is sponsored by Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch ’74 and hosts two to three concerts each year. Events draw hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and local guests.

“The concerts provide a chance for the Scripps community to come together for an evening of great music,” says Karen Fagan, director of public events and community programs. ” “Levitt on the Lawn not only draws attention to the work of women, who are under-represented in the music industry, but also supports their work by giving them exposure to new audiences.”

In addition to the performances, Levitt on the Lawn also works to identify and mentor students who are interested in the music industry.

The concert begins at 5:30pm on Bowling Green at Scripps College. Dinner will be available on the lawn. Claremont Colleges students, faculty, and staff may use their meal cards; all others $9 or bring a picnic. For more information, call the Public Events Office at (909) 607-9372.
