Appointment of the New Humanities Institute Director
Posted: February 19, 2014
Dear Scripps College Community:
I am delighted to announce that Juliet Koss, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Art History, will be our next Director of the Humanities Institute. She has agreed to a two-year term beginning July 1, 2014 with the possibility of a third year. In selecting Professor Koss, we were impressed by her vision in providing exceptional programming for the College and her interest in working collaboratively as Director with such existing programs as the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, the Humanities major, and the Scripps College Academy. The theme for the fall 2014 semester will be Silence.
Professor Koss will be on sabbatical in spring 2015. During this time, Yuval Avnur, Associate Professor of Philosophy, has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Director. My sincere thanks to Professor Avnur for taking on the interim role during this time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Cándida Jáquez whose success as the Director of the Humanities Institute for the past three years provided important and far-reaching programs that have enriched Scripps and the wider academic communities.
