Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey Findings

Posted: November 5, 2015

Dear Scripps Students, Faculty, and Staff,

In the spring of 2015, the seven Claremont colleges administered the Higher Education Data Sharing (HEDS) Consortium’s Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey. Recognizing the importance of sharing this information throughout the consortium, the Council of Presidents of The Claremont Colleges has published a joint letter to the 7C community, the aggregate survey results, and a frequently asked questions document. You may visit the Scripps College Title IX website to view a separate report highlighting the survey responses of Scripps students and to obtain more information about the climate survey and additional resources.

I am grateful to those students who participated, as we realize that this survey confronts sensitive topics that may be difficult for many to address. Your responses reinforce the importance of the College’s commitment to prevent and respond to incidents of unwanted sexual contact and sexual assault and to create a safe campus climate for every member of our community. The information provided by the climate survey will inform our efforts to strengthen and focus resources for prevention, education, intervention, and support.

I encourage you to join Dean of Students Charlotte Johnson, Title IX Coordinator Sally Steffen, Director of Assessment and Institutional Research Junelyn Peeples, and me on Tuesday, November 10 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Humanities Auditorium to discuss the survey results. We welcome your questions and recommendations as we develop strategies to address issues raised in the climate survey and to continue to improve our procedures, resources, and services to reduce and address incidents of unwanted sexual contact and sexual assault.

Amy Marcus-Newhall
Interim President
