The Student Computer Lab is located in Steele 226, on the second floor of Steele Hall, and houses Dell and Macintosh computer systems with CD burners. All computers have electronic mail, internet access, office programs, desktop publishing, and course-related software installed. There is laserjet and color printing available to students; scanners are also available. Please read the General Lab Rules and Regulations, which are also posted in the lab, for information on Scripps computer policy, printing rules, and other network resources. Students gain access by using the card reader at the entrance.
Located in Steele 5, this Multimedia lab has 25 iMac computers with CD burners, a data projector connected to the lead computer, VCR, and DVD player. This room is reserved for classes and workshops through the Registrar’s office. It is also used as an overflow to the Art Computer lab.
Located in Steele 229, this computer classroom has 25 Dell Pc’s, a data projector, VCR, and DVD player. This room is reserved for classes and workshops through the Registrar’s office. This room can also be reserved for labs and workshops.
The Scripps Modern Language Resource Center is located in HUM 122. There are 14 computer stations that students can use for language course assignments or for independent language study. The computers are equipped with spellcheck for the various languages and programs for making voice recordings.
Software that uses voice recognition technology is available for Italian, Spanish, French, German, and Arabic to help students improve their pronunciation. There are additional exercises on the software to work with other skills.
The Lab has an extensive non-circulating film library with feature films and documentaries in the above languages plus Portuguese. They offer good practice with listening comprehension.
Continuing for Fall 2013, a pilot program offering drop-in help for some languages is now available.
Located in Performing Arts Room 209, this computer classroom for music contains 13 electronic keyboards connected to iMac computers with music software installed.
In addition to the lab computers, each of the eight residence halls at Scripps College has at least two Dell and one Macintosh computer, a laserjet printer for student use in the dorm computer room. All rooms in the residential halls and the Senior Routt apartments are connected to the Scripps campus network.
