Paid Family Leave

Date Updated: May 9th, 2012

Although time taken off of work for family/medical care leave is not paid by the College, employees may be eligible for Paid Family Leave (“PFL”), which are benefits administered by the Claremont Colleges Disability Administration office and funded by payroll taxes.

Employees may apply for PFL benefits if they take time off from work for reasons of:

  • the birth of a child of the employee or the employee’s domestic partner;
  • the placement of a child with an employee in connection with the adoption or foster care of the child by the employee or domestic partner;
  • the serious health condition of a child of the employee, spouse or domestic partner; or
  • to care for a parent, spouse, or domestic partner who has a serious health condition.

Employees must satisfy a seven (7) day waiting period and use accrued vacation during this period. After the waiting period, an employee may be eligible for up to six (6) weeks of PFL. The benefits and eligibility criteria for Paid Family Leave are established by the Claremont Colleges Disability Administration office. You may contact the Office of Human Resources or The Claremont Colleges Disability Administration Office for additional information regarding PFL benefits.

Paid Family Leave insurance does not provide job protection or return rights. If you are entitled to leave under FMLA and CFRA, you must take Paid Family Leave concurrent with leave taken under FMLA and CFRA.
