Commencement 2015 Information
Scripps College Commencement will be held on May 16, 2015, and there are a number of important steps that need to be completed before walking down Elm Tree Lawn. This page will be updated frequently with new information, so please check here first if you have any questions about Commencement.
The Commencement Confirmation Form (coming soon) is the first item that must be submitted by candidates for graduation. This form provides the College with important information about your participation in the various Commencement activities and allows you to provide an address for mailing your diploma if you choose not to participate in Commencement. It is also the place where you provide cap and gown measurements and sign up for complimentary Commencement invitations that can be sent to friends and family. This form must be completed no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015.
Audio Recording Name Pronunciation
Students participating in Commencement will have the ability to record their name pronunciations directly through the Academic Portal. You may also stop by the Dean of the Faculty’s Office to record the pronunciation of your name; all recordings must be completed by May 1, 2015
Accessibility and Language Services
Please notify the Office of Public Events to request accommodations for any guests who have accessibility needs. This might include language assistance, hearing assistance, ASL interpretation, wheelchair seating, disabled parking, etc. A map showing disabled parking areas and wheelchair access routes on campus can be found here. Please note that the Humanities Auditorium will also be set up with a live feed of the ceremony on Elm Tree Lawn for individuals who may have difficulties with outdoor seating. The auditorium will be air conditioned and is wheelchair accessible.
Scripps College makes available a wireless audio system for simultaneous Spanish interpretation of the Commencement ceremony. Please notify the Office of Public Events to reserve headsets for any guests who would like to hear the live Spanish language broadcast of the ceremony. If there is a sufficient number of requests for interpretation services for a language other than Spanish, the College will try to accommodate those requests. The service is offered at no charge, but a piece of identification will be required to pick up a headset
Invitations and Announcements
The College provides each graduation candidate with two complimentary, printed invitations to the Commencement ceremony, and will mail these invitations to the address(es) of your choosing. Please provide this information on the Commencement Confirmation Form when it becomes available. Candidates for graduation are invited to make an appointment for their formal Commencement portrait. A professional photographer will be on campus for this purpose during the week before Commencement. Please click here for information on packages and to schedule an appointment.

Cap and Gown Pick-up Schedule
Cap and Gown pick-up will be held in the North/South Meeting Rooms in the Malott Commons Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please enter the meeting rooms through Stewart Court on the west side of the Commons. Caps and gowns must be returned immediately after Commencement in front of the Tiernan Field House. Please contact Career Planning & Resources with any questions about cap and gown pick-up/return.
A mandatory rehearsal for graduates participating in the Commencement ceremony will be held Friday, May 16, 2015. It is extremely important that you arrive at Denison Library by 4:30 p.m. to get your number and line up so that rehearsal can end by 6:00 p.m. In addition to running through the Commencement ceremony basics, we will be making last-minute procedural announcements and handing out the numbers your family will need to access the Commencement ceremony photo platform on Saturday. Caps and gowns are not needed for rehearsal
Senior Class Photo
Don’t forget to arrive at the Wood Steps at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 for the senior class photo. The photo will be taken with caps and gowns, so please be prepared. The class will move directly from the photo to lining up for the Commencement processional
Commencement is on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are NOT required for the ceremony. Seating is open and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating begins at 3:30 p.m. Seats may not be saved.

Celebration Dinner Dance
A Celebration Dinner Dance will be on Saturday, May 16, 2015, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Advance pick-up of tickets is required; tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets are non-replaceable and non-refundable.
Please be advised that during the Dinner Dance, anyone looking less than 21 years old may be asked to provide valid photo identification to obtain an alcoholic beverage. Families may not bring their own alcoholic beverages into the dinner dance.
