Department Goals and/or Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes

Goals are broad statements that describe what the program wants to accomplish.

  1. Implement programming focused on student development and skill development to increase students’ capacity to live independently and resourcefully.
  2. Partner with student leaders to create programming opportunities to support cross-cultural understanding, develop alliances across differences and enhance the campus commitment to being an inclusive community.
  3. Partner with student leaders to create programming opportunities to support community and philanthropic projects.
  4. Support students in their academic endeavors.
  5. Partner and assist students in developing programs that will educate and improve behaviors related to use and alcohol consumption.
  6. Expose students to a wide variety of leadership models (beyond western male traditions).
  7. Help students develop their own voice, passion(s) and compassion.
  8. Create opportunities for students to become engaged and responsible citizens and invest in the creation of community.
  9. Increase students’ understanding of personal accountability, responsibility, and related consequences.
  10. Assist students in developing wellness programs and professional leadership opportunities.

Outcomes describe specific knowledge, abilities, values, and attitudes students should demonstrate.

  • Student Coordinators, Peer Mentors, and Team Leaders are able to demonstrate knowledge in:
    • Diversity
    • Health and wellness
    • Alcohol education
    • Campus resources (e.g. academic and co-curricular)
  • Student Coordinators, Peer Mentors, and Team Leaders are able to assist first-year students in transition into college.
  • Increase of programs/events available for students specific to topics in:
    • Diversity and Multiculturalism
    • Community and Philanthropy
  • Student leaders who produce programs/events will demonstrate satisfaction with support provided by SARLO.
  • Students who participated in programs/events provide feedback on programs/events.
  • Students will provide feedback on NSO programming.
  • SARLO will partner with academics to support out of classroom experiences.
  • Increased educational awareness about alcohol use and consumption.
  • Residential Assistants will:
    • Demonstrate knowledge in cross-cultural understanding.
    • Demonstrate knowledge in how to develop alliances across different identity groups.
    • Be able to understand how to use inclusive language.
