Housing Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for housing as a First Year student?

Incoming First Year students will receive an email on Monday, July 11th, 2016 with a link to complete a First Year Housing Questionnaire. Questionnaires are due Sunday, July 31st at 11:55pm.

How much is housing at Scripps?

Please visit the Student Accounts page for more information on housing fees. All rooms, apartments, and houses are the same fee.

Are First Year students required to live on campus?

Yes, all First Year students are required to live on campus their first year.

What types of rooms are available to First Year students?

First Year students typically live in two-person or three-person rooms.

How will I know who I am living with?

First Year students will be matched with a roommate(s) based on their First Year Housing Questionnaire. Students will be notified in early August with their room and roommate(s) name.

How do I change my room assignment?

There is a two week moratorium period for all students once they arrive to campus. After the first two weeks of class, students may apply for a room change request HERE. Requests may not be made prior to the academic year, and the form will be active starting after the two week moratorium.

How can I change my meal plan?

Students may make a meal plan change request by submitting a request HERE. Meal plan change requests must be submitted prior to September 12th, 2016. Students who live on-campus are required to have a 12 or 16 meal plan. Students living in Senior Routt Apartments, Off-Campus, or in the 709 House may request a 5 or 0 meal plan. Moving In:

When can I check in to my room?

Residence halls open at 8am on Thursday, August 25th, for New Student Orientation. Residence halls open for continuing students on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 10am.

Where do I check in?

First Year Students will check in and pick up their room keys at their residence halls front lobbies. Residential Life Staff and New Student Orientation Staff will be present to help check you in and orient you around the building. Continuing students will pick up their keys at the GJW Rec Room.

Where should I park during check in?

Families and students are encouraged to park in Scripps designated parking zones only, marked throughout campus.

Housing Amenities:

I have a housing accommodation need. How do I request a housing accommodation?

If you have a need for a housing accommodation, please review the housing accommodation application and documentation process on the Academic Resources and Accommodations page. Housing accommodations applications are due Sunday, July 31st, 2016.

What should I pack/bring to campus?

What size beds are in the Residence Halls?

All beds are XL Twin size mattresses

What furniture is included in my room?

Each room at Scripps is unique and furniture may vary. Each student will have a desk, desk chair, bed, mattress, closet/wardrobe, and book shelves/cases. Most rooms contain reading lamps, reading chairs, trash and recycling bins. All rooms have access to wireless internet.

Microfridge units are available for rent through Microfridge online.

Can I remove the furniture in my room?

There is a two week moratorium for furniture removal and bed height changes. See your RA for more information.

Where do I do my laundry?

There are laundry facilities in each residence hall. Ask your RA for the location. Money to do laundry can be added to your card through the CUC Card site or at Connections, located in the Honnold/Mudd library. Laundry is $1.00 to wash and $.50 to dry per laundry load.

How to I get Internet access in my room?

Each residence hall has access to high-speed wireless internet. Students will get connected once on campus during New Student Orientation. Scripps IT will have support staff throughout campus to help with connectivity.

How do I get something fixed in my room or report an issue?

Contact your RA via email and indicate the issue, your name, and room number. RAs work with Scripps Maintenance to submit requests for repairs.

For any maintenance emergency situations, such as an overflowing toilet, burst steam pipe, water leak, or sparking or inconsistent electricity, please contact the RA On-Call or Campus Safety.

Is storage available on campus for students throughout the academic year?

Yes, in the basement of each residence hall — where available. Please note this storage is not secure and not managed by the college. Students may store their belongings at their own risk.

Summer Housing:

Is Summer Housing Available?

Yes, summer housing at Scripps is available to matriculating Scripps students only. Summer Housing applications will be available Monday, April 3, 2017. please watch your Scripps email account for more information as the date nears closer.

What kind of summer housing is available?

This changes each year. Refer to the communication you will receive later in the year regarding housing spaces that students will reside in over the summer.

Can I have furniture moved out of my summer space?

No, Maintenance will not move furniture out of temporary summer rooms. All furniture must remain in it’s assigned room.

Is there student storage available on campus over summer break?

There is no student storage available on campus if needed you may seek out alternative storage box options to house your belongings over the summer break.

Will my parking pass still be valid over the summer break?

Yes.

Are there any dining options open over the summer?

No, but the hall that you will be assigned to will have a kitchen so that you can prepare your own meals.
