Room Selection 2019-2020

What is Room Selection?

Room Selection is Scripps’ online housing reapplication process, for qualifying Scripps students. Room Selection takes place over the course of the spring semester, with selection for on-campus rooms taking place on April 15, 16, and 17.  Please note that students participating in on-campus room selection will be assigned a selection day and time. Selection dates are based on graduation date seniority; rising seniors, then juniors then sophomores. Students wishing to live with another student in a suite, double, triple, quad, or Senior Routt Apartment must create a roommate group. For more information, visit How Room Selection Works and RoommateGroupsTutorial.

Prior to Room Selection starting, students will complete their Room Selection Housing Application, available on their housing portal. Room Selection Applications for are due on Sunday, March 31 by 11:59pm/PST.

Selecting your room

Log into your housing portal to select a room from the spaces available. For a quick understanding of how to select a room as a single room or as a group, please view the videos and tips sheets below.

Students selecting a room will log on during their designated date and time, all of which occur from 8:30am-3:30pm PST.

Note: We ask that you make every effort to select your space during the designated time, so that in the event you have issues with selection, a member of the Residential Life staff is available to assist.  Selecting after your time has passed is still permissible, just know you may not receive support/resolution until the next business day.

Single Rooms:  Students selecting a single room will choose a space from the open spaces available.

Group Selection/Non-Single Rooms: Student selecting a space that requires more than one person to fully occupy the space will need to create a Roommate Group. Roommate groups are dynamic and can be changed in real time. Should you not receive your first choice, but then decide to choose a different group option, simply create a new group. A group’s day and time will be based on the best day and time from any member within the group. The group leader will choose the room for the group and will place the group members into their rooms within the group space.

Housing Options

In support of the Scripps Centennial Strategic Plan, we are excited to revamp our current interest communities and offer learning communities with a more intentional co-curricular focus to students for the 2019-2020 academic year. Each learning community (LC) will have a staff sponsor, incorporating their existing departmental mission into the student residential experience. LCs will offer workshops and programming centered around departmental themes/interests.  The staff sponsor will be visibly present in the residence hall, hosting office hours and developing programming that creates a greater sense of community and belonging at Scripps.

We are excited to offer the following learning community themes (locations TBD):

  • creative arts
  • languages
  • leadership
  • science & technology
  • social justice
  • wellness

Students have the ability to choose a room among the following residential buildings:

  • Browning Hall
  • Clark Hall
  • College Houses
  • Dorsey Hall
  • Frankel Hall
  • GJW Hall
  • Kimberly Hall
  • Revelle House
  • Routt Hall
  • Schow Hall
  • Senior Routt Apartment
  • Wilbur Hall
  • Toll Hall

Floor plans and room availability will be released on April 1.

5C Exchange – No Longer Available

With support from the Student Deans Committee (SDC), the 7C Residential Deans (ResDeans) committee has decided to discontinue the 5C Housing Exchange program starting with the 2019-2020 academic year.  In the past years, the 5C Housing Exchange had low student participation and posed more complications than benefits to all involved.

Plans to Study Abroad

Students who will be participating in Off-Campus Study (OCS) in Fall 2019 will NOT receive a room selection time. Students who will be on campus in Fall 2019 but abroad in Spring 2020 will choose a room during Room Selection.

Selection Times

Selection date is based on your anticipated graduation year. Those graduating in fall 2019, spring 2020 or summer 2020 are considered rising seniors.  Rising juniors are those with a graduation date of fall 2020, spring 2021 or summer 2021, and those graduating in fall 2021, spring 2022 or summer 2022 are considered rising sophomores. Selection times are randomly generated by our housing software system.

No Selection Time

Please notify Students who are going abroad for Fall 2019 do not need to participate in room selection and will not receive a room selection day or time., neither will those students assigned housing before selection times were released (i.e. accommodations, ResLife student staff, learning communities)
