Student Employee Appreciation Week Summary

Posted: April 2, 2018

Dear Scripps Community,

On behalf of Career Planning & Resources and Student Employment, thank you for helping us celebrate student employees during Student Employee Appreciation Week. Together, we offered a variety of opportunities for the community to celebrate the accomplishments of these outstanding students. It was wonderful to see the community come together in this way.

Thank you to all the departments who decorated their student work spaces this week and to those who submitted a quilt piece for display at Tea. We are especially grateful to Academic Support Staff, DOS,  Donor Relations and Stewardship, the Modern Language Resource Center, Phonathon, and SAGE for your contributions to this week’s ongoing raffles. We extend our gratitude to facilities, food services, and public events for their support in hosting Tea, a true highlight of the week, so. I also want to recognize Christine Camacho for her organization and leadership throughout the week.

This week’s student raffle winners were Gloria Choi ’21, Madeleine Edwards ’18, Eleanor Grosse ’20, Jahnavi Kothari ’19, Tiffany Lagerstrom ’18, Natalie Lillie ’19, Samantha Norrito ’21, Keely Shiners ’18, Talia Speaker ’18, Loise Velazquez ’21, Sarah Wilson ’20, and Sabrina Wu ’20. They have been contacted via email to pick up their prizes in CP&R.

For those who participated in the friendly social media contest, CP&R will contact the winning department whose photo received the most likes on Monday.

The final highlight of the week was announcing the Scripps Student Employee of the Year. This award is given annually to an outstanding student employee who has made a unique contribution to the College and has demonstrated exceptional reliability, quality of work, initiative, and professionalism. We received numerous applications, a true indication of our dedicated student workforce. Leslie Moreno ’18 was selected as this year’s recipient. Leslie was nominated for two jobs on campus: as manager at the Scripps Store and as an office assistant and tutor coordinator for Academic Resources and Services. The Student Employee of the Year Plaque bearing the names of all former awardees will hang in the Scripps Store for the remainder of the summer and then return to its place in CP&R. Congratulations to the two other finalists, Rachel Geller ’18 for her work as a career consultant in Career Planning & Resources and Samantha Richards ’18 for her role as program supervisor for Phonathon.
