Dear Scripps College Faculty and Staff,
It is with pleasure that I announce the appointments of Nancy Macko, professor of art, to the Mary W. Johnson Professorship in Teaching, and Stacey Wood, professor of psychology, to the Molly Mason Jones Chair in Psychology, effective July 1, 2018.
The Mary W. Johnson Professorship was established to honor a member of the faculty who exemplifies, by his or her teaching and involvement in the affairs of the College, commitment to the welfare of students and to Scripps. Since joining the College in 1986, Professor Macko has been an active member of the Art Department and more recently has been an engaged member of the Intercollegiate Media Studies program. She has also been involved in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities. In addition to teaching, Professor Macko regularly mounts solo exhibitions of her art; her work Fragile Bee has been recently exhibited in Texas, Colorado, California, Germany, and France. She is active and engaged at Scripps, having served as chair of the art program for multiple terms and being elected by her colleagues to the Faculty Executive Committee five times. Professor Macko is currently serving as the chair of the Committee on Study Abroad and the College’s instructional technologist.
The Molly Mason Jones Chair in Psychology supports the teaching and research activities of a senior member of the psychology faculty. Professor Wood has taught at Scripps since 1998.She has published extensively and regularly throughout her career, with a focus on information processing and decision making among the elderly. Professor Wood has a strong record of grant support, having received funding from the Department of Justice, California Foundation, and the Mellon Foundation, among others. As a teacher, she contributes to the Psychology Department and neuroscience program and is a regular contributor to the Core program with her Core III class The Life Story. She has been actively engaged in service, having been elected to both the Faculty Executive and the Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure Committees in addition to serving as chair of psychology for multiple terms.
Through these appointments, Scripps College recognizes Professors Nancy Macko and Stacey Wood for their teaching, scholarship, and service to the College.
