Human Resource Department Update

Posted: March 18, 2015

Greetings Scripps community!

Over the past two years, Scripps’ Human Resource Department has implemented several new processes to provide increased support and service to the Scripps community. Here are just some of the highlights: launch of online time and attendance system, centralized vacation, sick and tracking, streamlined student new hire paperwork, onboarding program and organizational charts.

Thanks to your feedback, we are currently working on the implementation of a more robust time and attendance system that will alleviate some of our current challenges (names of former employees still appearing in approval area, easier reporting, ability to insert time under former jobs). In addition, we are working on a new recruiting software, online new hire system health Care (ACA) reporting, and expanding our website to include more resources and information.

Human Resources has restructured roles and responsibilities in the department for both existing and new staff members. Here are the main areas of responsibility for each of the Human Resource staff members.

Sana Bisharat who joined the Human Resource Team as an HR Generalist this past December will be primarily responsible for:

  • Completion of new hire paperwork of bi-weekly staff and students
  • Processing bi-weekly payroll and rideshare reimbursements
  • Maintain Ultipro website
  • Implementation of software to streamline new hire paperwork
  • Provide backup support for monthly payroll processing

  • Oversee recruiting process (draft of job descriptions, requisitions, and resume review)
  • Implementation of recruiting software to streamline process
  • Implementation of new time and attendance system
  • Payroll processing for monthly staff and faculty
  • Manage and implement the new on-boarding process of candidates
  • Assist with employee relations matters

In her role as Associate Director, Blanca Uriarte is responsible for the implementation of new organizational chart program, development and delivery of staff training, and development of fully integrated off-boarding process. In addition, Blanca continues to oversee many of the key day-to-day operations of the HR Department including:

  • Leave of absence administration
  • Workers compensation
  • ADA (American with Disabilities Act)
  • Tuition Remission
  • VDI processing
  • Rideshare program
  • Review and codification of HR processes

  • Assist in the development and implementation of effective programs that promote a positive and enriching work experience
  • Assist with employee relations matters
  • Supervises, coordinates and monitors the maintenance of employee records

As the Director of Human Resources, my role is to:

  • Provide management, supervisory, and employment-related consulting services on human resources related matters
  • Keeps administration informed on state and federal regulations and court decisions
  • Oversee the development of strategic human resources initiatives based on short-term and long-term goals of the College
  • Development and implementation of effective programs that promote a positive and enriching work experience

The Human Resource Department is here to assist you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the team for assistance with benefits, Ultipro, general questions, guidance or thoughts on how we can better support the Scripps community.
