Announcement of Hao Huang as Director of the Humanities Institute
Posted: January 22, 2015
Dear Scripps College Community:
I am delighted to announce that Hao Huang, Professor and Chair of the Department of Music and the Bessie and Cecil Frankel Chair in Music, will be our next Director of the Humanities Institute. He has agreed to a one-year term beginning July 1, 2015. In selecting Professor Huang, we were impressed by his vision for the College and his interest in integrating the Humanities Institute with the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, the Clark Humanities Museum, and the Humanities majors. His own interdisciplinarity in teaching and scholarship make him an excellent choice as the next Humanities Institute Director. The theme for the 2015-16 year will be Dangerous Conversations: Racial/Sexual/Classed Violence in the USA.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Juliet Koss for her successful program theme of Silence this past fall. The programming brought superb guests to our campus and had an impact at Scripps, the Claremont Colleges, our local community, and beyond. I hope you will all join me in attending this semester’s events on the theme of Concepts of Self under the directorship of Professor Yuval Avnur.
