Most of the nation’s liberal arts colleges are facing complex financial issues—including Scripps College. Many students and their families struggle with how to fund the cost of this educational investment.
What is happening nationwide, and how is Scripps addressing its specific challenges?
To help the Scripps community gain a greater understanding of these economic realities, and find answers to these questions, noted policy analyst Dr. Sandy Baum will offer her unique perspective on the current economic landscape for liberal arts colleges, what we can expect going forward, and what we and institutions like us must consider as we strive to build a vision for a robust future.
Dr. Baum is professor of economics emerita at Skidmore College and an independent policy analyst for the College Board. She has written extensively on issues relating to college access, college pricing, student aid policy, student debt, affordability, and other aspects of higher education finance. She is the co-author of the Trends in Higher Education series and Education Pays: The Benefits of Higher Education for individuals and Society.
