Community Memo: Student Employee Wage Classifications

Dear Scripps College Faculty and Staff:

Following is an update on the student wage and budget initiative that was launched Spring 2015.
You may recall that the State of California initiated plans to increase the minimum wage to
$15.00 per hour by January 1, 2022. To ensure compliance with these new regulations,
Career Planning & Resources (CP&R), which oversees student employment, and Human
Resources developed standard wage classifications for all on-campus student employment
positions.

In reviewing the fiscal impact of these increases, we will merge the current three student wage
classifications into two effective July 1, 2017. This allows the College to project wage increases
for the next five years. CP&R will send further details to student employee supervisors in the
coming weeks regarding any impact this may have on your department. Information will also be
available online at careerservices.scrippscollege.edu under “Student Employment.” Thank you
for your continued cooperation.

Sincerely,

Vicki Klopsch
Executive Director, Career Planning & Resources
