CMS Athletics Week in Review: September 30-October 6

Cross Country

The Athenas finished in second place out of 12 teams in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational while four runners were in Hanover, Ind., to compete in Pre-Nationals. CMS finished with 78 points in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, second only to Cal State San Marcos. Senior Allison Barnwell (CMC) finished second individually at Pre-Nationals on the 6K course out of 228 runners. Their next race is the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet on Oct. 18 at La Mirada following a week without competition.

Women’s Soccer

The Athenas beat Occidental in overtime (2-1) on Saturday at home and tied its match in double overtime against Redlands (0-0) on Wednesday. Freshman midfielder Makella Brems (CMC) scored both of CMS’s goals against Oxy. Their record now stands at 3-5-3. The Athenas host Whittier on Oct. 9.


During the week the Athenas beat Occidental (3-1) on Saturday and lost to Pomona-Pitzer (3-0) on Tuesday to bring their overall record to 12-3 and 4-3 in SCIAC play which puts the team in a tie for third place with three other teams. Sophomore Audrey Breitweiser (CMC) led the team with double-doubles (kills/digs) in both matches. Their next match is Oct. 8 against Redlands.
