CMS Athletics Week in Review: November 3-9

The top-seeded Athena soccer team lost to fourth-seeded Redlands in the semifinal of the SCIAC tournament 1-0. CMS finishes its season 13-7-1 and earned the program’s sixth regular-season SCIAC title.
The Athena volleyball team competed in the SCIAC postseason tournament, hosted by Cal Lutheran. CMS beat La Verne in the semifinal match 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-18) but then lost in the final to top-seeded Cal Lu 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-18). The team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament to compete for a national title. CMS faces Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the regional site hosted by Cal Lu. The Athenas faced MHB earlier this season and won 3-1. Megan Coleman (CMC ’15) is currently ranked 15th in the nation for digs per set at 5.91, 567 total digs on the season.
The Athena cross country team is in preparation for the NCAA postseason. It will race again on Nov. 15 at the NCAA West Regional in Salem, Ore. The meet, which serves as a qualifying race for the NCAA Championships, will be held in Bush’s Pasture Park, with the men racing at 10 a.m. and women racing at 11 a.m.
The Athena basketball team did not compete last week. CMS begins its regular season against Pacific Lutheran at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Linde Activities Center at Harvey Mudd.
