(3-2), UC Santa Cruz (3-0), Texas-Tyler (3-0) and Kean (New Jersey) (3-0). In the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational, the Athenas were 2-2, beating Augustana (Ill.) (3-0) and George Fox (Ore.) (3-1), but came up short against the stiff competition of No. 18 Pacific Lutheran (3-1) and No. 6 Emory (3-0). To date, Megan Coleman (CMC ’15) has played in all 28 sets and recorded 168 digs (5.71 per set). Audrey Breitwieser (CMC ’16) has also played in every set and has 80 kills (2.86 per set). The Athenas travel to Texas this weekend for matches against Texas Lutheran, Trinity, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Southwestern (Texas).
Women’s Cross Country
The Athena cross country runners competed in the Nationball Classic in Santa Barbara and won the event, 18-44. Sara Mostatabi (CMC ’15) won the women’s race at 24:17 on the 4.21-mile course. Several runners improved dramatically over last year’s race on the same course, particularly the sophomore Athenas. CMS next competes at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The CMS women’s soccer team is 3-1 so far after beating Southwestern (Texas) (2-0) and Pacific Lutheran (1-0) in a tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran, and then a long weekend trip to the Boston area, where the Athenas beat Emmanuel (1-0) and ultimately lost to MIT (1-0) after the game was delayed due to lightning. In goal, Kelly McConnell (HMC ’17) has amassed more than 150 minutes, had three saves and given up no goals. The Athenas host Lewis & Clark (Ore.) in their home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.
