CMS Athletics Week in Review: April 7-13

After a first-place finish at the SCIAC #2 Tournament, the Athena golf team did not compete last week. CMS next plays April 27-29 in the SCIAC Championships at Oak Valley Golf Course.
The Athena lacrosse team was 0-2 last week, losing to Redlands (14-9) and Occidental (11-5). Between the two games, Izzy Laterzo ’16 (CMC) scored three goals while goalkeeper Kate Anello ’16 (CMC) had 12 saves. CMS (9-6, 2-6 SCIAC) finishes SCIAC competition playing Whittier at home (4/16) at 7 p.m. on Zinda Field and then traveling to Chapman (4/19).
The Athena softball team was 3-1 over the weekend, sweeping Whittier (5-4, 5-2) and splitting with La Verne (2-1 loss, 11-4 win). In the games, Tara Robinson ’16 (CMC) went 6 for 12 with five stolen bases while Janelle Shiozaki ’16 (CMC) was the team’s leadoff batter all four games and made extraordinary catches in the outfield. CMS (20-11, 15-7 SCIAC) travels to Cal Lutheran on Friday (4/18) and then hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a double-header and Senior Day on Saturday (4/19).
The Athena tennis team was 2-0 over the weekend, beating Occidental 9-0 and UC Santa Cruz 8-1. In the win over Occidental, Victoria Santoro ’14 (CMC) shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles position. CMS travels to La Verne to continue SCIAC competition this Saturday (4/19) for a match at 2 p.m.
Women’s Track & Field
The CMS track and field team competed in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. The meet featured over 1,500 athletes and as many as 18 sections of some events. Alex Arnett ’16 (CMC) won her section of the 1,500 meters with a personal best time of 4:58.41. Nicole Laliberte ’17 (CMC) won her flight of the shot put with a personal best of 9.78 m. The team will compete again this Saturday, April 19 against Chapman, Occidental and Redlands in the final SCIAC dual meets of the year.
Women’s Water Polo
The Athena water polo team was 2-0 last week with big SCIAC wins over Redlands (12-8) and Whittier (15-13). Alex Toohey ’14 (CMC) scored five goals during Wednesday’s victory over Redlands. CMS (14-11, 6-0 SCIAC) goes to Occidental (4/16) and then finishes SCIAC play at home with the Pomona-Pitzer rivalry game at 11 a.m. Saturday (4/19).
