CMS Athletics Week in Review: April 21 – 27

Women’s Golf

A trio of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s golfers finished in the top-5 as CMS won the SCIAC Championships and overall conference championship for the third season in a row. The SCIAC Championships at Oak Valley Golf Course concluded on April 29 and CMS shot a three-round score of 997 to finish 12 shots ahead of Redlands (1009) at the SCIAC’s final event of the season. Next up for the Athenas is the NCAA Championships May 13-16 in Florida.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Athena lacrosse team lost to Chapman 13-9 in the first round of the SCIAC Tournament. In the game, Zoe Pinczower ’17 (SCR) led the Athenas’ offense with four goals. CMS’ season ends with a 9-9 overall record, 2-9 in SCIAC.


The Athena softball team was 2-0, beating Occidental twice (17-2 and 14-2) in the final regular-season games. In the games, Tara Robinson ’16 (CMC) was 7-for-8 with a triple and six runs scored while Andrea Jewett ’17 (CMC) earned her first win in the circle. CMS (24-12, 20-8) is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament, hosted by No. 1 seed Redlands. The Athenas play No. 3 seed Chapman on Friday, May 2 in the first game of the double-elimination tournament.

Women’s Tennis

The Athena tennis team competed in The Ojai tournament over the weekend. Caroline Ward ’16 (CMC) and Katie Kuosman ’17 (CMC) won the Independent College Doubles title, defeating a pair from La Verne. CMS hosts the SCIAC Championships May 2-3.

Women’s Track & Field

The CMS track and field team did not compete last week. The team will compete on May 2-3 in the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Occidental.

Women’s Water Polo

The Athena water polo team was 2-1 over the weekend at the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Whittier. CMS won its first two games against Chapman (12-6) and Whittier (9-7) but ultimately lost to Pomona-Pitzer (7-4) in the title game. In that game, Candace Filippelli ’14 (CMC) led CMS with two of the team’s four goals. The Athenas end their season with a 17-13 record, two wins more than last season.
