CMS Athletics Week In Review (1/18 – 1/24/16)

=============== Winter – Women===================
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team beat Redlands in its only game last week by a final score of 66-47. Junior guard Jai Dungca (CMC ’17) had another strong performance offensively, going 7 for 8 from the field with two free throws for 17 points on the night. Dungca is now second on the team in average points per game (8.9). The 12-4 (7-0 SCIAC) Athenas own sole possession of first place in the conference after Cal Lutheran fell to Chapman over the weekend. The Athenas have a busy week ahead on the schedule with games at Cal Lutheran (Jan. 26), at Pomona-Pitzer (Jan. 28) and home against Caltech (Jan. 30).
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Both CMS swimming and diving teams had the past week off from competition after they defeated Caltech and Whittier on Jan. 16. The Athenas will look to continue their strong 2015-16 campaign Jan. 30 in their final home meet of the year against La Verne, followed by a Feb. 6 meet at Pomona-Pitzer. The SCIAC Championships will take place Feb. 18-21 in La Mirada.

The Stags fell to Redlands 68-61 last week and at Pomona-Pitzer, 53-43 to start off this week. Sophomore guard Michael Scarlett (CMC ’18) posted 21 points, including four three-pointers against the Bulldogs, his third-highest point total of the season. CMS holds a 6-9 (1-6 SCIAC) record and sits in last place in the conference near the midpoint of the conference season. The Stags travel to Cal Lutheran on Jan. 27 and host Caltech on Jan. 30.

====================== Club Sports ========================
The season gets underway for the Claremont Cougars on Jan. 30 with the Trapp Family Alumni Classic at home at 3 p.m. The regular season begins with a road match at Long Beach State on Feb. 6.
After five days of twice daily trainings, mountain runs, film study and classroom sessions, the Claremont Colleges men’s rugby team defeated Cal Poly Pomona 84-0 at Parents Field on Jan. 16 to finish their pre-season training camp. The Lions open conference play on Jan. 30 at Parents Field vs. Pepperdine. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
The women’s rugby team has a big home match on Saturday, Jan. 30 vs. Cal State Fullerton.
