Bias Incident Protocol-Please review and provide feedback

Dear Staff,


In response to President Tiedens’ request that we review and make recommendations regarding a bias-related incident protocol, the Bias Incident Protocol Working Group (including faculty, students, and staff) has met to consider revision of the protocol in ways that underscore the College’s values and help ensure an appropriate response by the College to such incidents.


Central to the protocol is the formation of a bias incident response team, consisting of members of the Scripps community to ensure support for individuals targeted by such incidents and also ensure referral for handling under the College’s disciplinary, grievance and/or discrimination and harassment procedures, where appropriate. As is the case currently, incidents involving criminal activity will be referred to the police.


This survey includes the proposed protocol for review and comment by current students, staff, and faculty. Following a 30-day comment period, the Working Group will meet to discuss the feedback and determine any further revisions.

The Office of Assessment and Institutional Research will collect the results for this survey. Your responses will be kept confidential and reported in aggregate form to protect the confidentiality of respondents.
