Academic Software on Scripps campus

Below is a list software installed on computers in Scripps classrooms and computer labs.

ArcGIS

Lab Computers:  ArcGIS is automatically installed on all classroom and lab dells – Not MACS.

ArcGIS is a geographic information system for working with maps and geographic information.

Office Computers: This software is installed on Scripps owned Dell computers.

Mathematica

Lab Computers: Wolfram Mathematica is automatically installed on all Dell lab and classroom computers. Mathematica is a mathematical analysis software package.

Office Computers: This software is installed on Scripps owned Dell desktop computers.

Personal Computers: This software is available to students and faculty – see information below.

Faculty

  1. Create an account (New users only):
    1. Go to user.wolfram.com and click “Create Account”
    2. Fill out form using a @scrippscollege.edu email, and click “Create Wolfram ID”
    3. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID
  2. Request access to the product. For a personally owned machine:
    1. Fill out this form to request a home-use license from Wolfram.

Students

  1. Create an account (New users only):
    1. Go to user.wolfram.com and click “Create Account”
    2. Fill out form using a @scrippscollege.edu email, and click “Create Wolfram ID”
    3. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID
  2. Request access to the product-For a personally owned machine:
    1. Fill out this form to request an Activation Key (an email will be sent to you, once this is sent, you will follow the below steps for download)
    2. Click the “Product Summary page” link to access your license
    3. Click “Get Downloads” and select “Download” next to your platform
    4. Run the installer on your machine, and enter Activation Key at prompt

Maple

Lab Computers: Maple is automatically installed on all Dell lab and classroom computers (Coming Soon to Mac desktops). Maple is a mathematical analysis software package.

Office Computers: This software is installed on Scripps owned Dell desktop computers.

Personal Computers: This software is also available to Faculty and Students – Maple software codes for both faculty and students are live on portal log on via link below to retrieve your install code.

MatLab

Lab Computers: Matlab is automatically installed on Dell and Mac desktops, lab, Faculty and Staff machines.  MatLab is a mathematical and scientific analysis software package.

Office Computers: This software is NOT available for installation on Scripps owned faculty laptop computers.

Personal Computers: This software is only available in the labs and classrooms. Faculty and students need to purchase your own copy for personal computers.

SPSS

Lab Computers: SPSS is automatically installed on all lab and classroom computers. SPSS is a statistical software package typically used in the Psychology Department.

Office Computers: This software is installed on Scripps owned and Scripps faculty computers.

Personal Computers: Scripps contract allows Faculty to install on their personal computers, please contact Scripps helpdesk for the software.

STATA

Lab Computers: STATA is automatically installed on all lab and classroom dell and mac desktops computers. STATA is a statistical software package typically used in the Economics Department.

Office Computers: This software is installed on Scripps owned and Scripps faculty desktop computers.

R

Lab Computers: R is automatically installed on all lab and classroom computers. R is a statistical software package typically used in the Mathematics Department.

LaTeX – MikTeX – TeXnicCenter

Lab Computers: LaTeX is automatically installed on all lab and classroom computers. LaTeX is a mathematical and scientific document markup language.

We use the MiKTeX distribution on our Windows computers and the MacTeX distribution on our Macs. For our development environment, we use TeXnicCenter on Windows and TeXShop on Mac. All are open-source.
